Dr. Lawrence Foster was born and raised in California. After studying pre-med at UCLA, he attended medical school at UC Medical Center in San Francisco. His internship at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania was followed by three years of general surgery residency at William Beaumont Hospital in El Paso, Texas. A year at the 44th MASH Hospital in Korea was followed by two years assigned to the Brooke Army Burn Unit in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Foster was honorably discharged with the rank of Major.
He then furthered his plastic surgery training at the Crippled Children's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona working on children with birth defects. He completed his training with an additional eighteen months back in San Francisco at UC Medical Center. He passed the Plastic Surgery Board exam in 1970 and was accepted as a fellow in the American College of Surgeons in 1971.
